In early November, we launched our Swedish language course created exclusively for Ukrainian teachers. The course not only focuses on learning Swedish but also covers the basics of Swedish education and offers valuable tips for building a successful career in Sweden.
As part of the course, our teacher, Isabella Verner, organized a study visit to a local Swedish school. The aim was to familiarize Ukrainian teachers with real-life scenarios in a Swedish school, providing insights into the working environment and the learning process.
Such visits are an important integration tool, helping not only understand how Swedish schools operate but also providing a sense of confidence on the career path in a new country.
The visit began in the director's office, where Pia Björkman Sjölander shared valuable information about the school, its staff, parent meetings, and development discussions. Discussions also covered the role of teachers and the rights and responsibilities of educators and parents. After that, Ukrainian teachers had the opportunity to visit lessons and participate in the learning process.
Music class: Children composed rap, and one of our teachers joined the lesson, helping the children from Ukraine.
Preschool class: During the break, conversations with a fritidspedagog and an elementary school teacher provided insights into becoming an educator, required education, and preschool teaching methods.
Teacher's common room: Discussions with Swedish colleagues explored the unified study plans in Swedish schools and diverse teaching methods.
Drawing class: Students created a collage with photos depicting various emotions.
Math class: Observations were made on the process of learning graphs and functions.
Preschool lesson: Students listened to a fairy tale and drew what they heard.
It was a highly eventful day. Our sincere gratitude to Björkhagens skola for warmly opening its doors to us, and a big thank you to everyone for taking the time to attend. We hope that now you are all one step closer to securing teaching positions in Sweden.
If you work in a school in the Stockholm area and have open teacher positions, please reach out to us via email anna@helpinchange.org. Together, let's empower our Ukrainian colleagues to integrate into the workplace more swiftly!
